Here are four ways that you as an independent artist can promote your band in Web 2.0:

Emails – Set up your own newsletter with services like Yahoo Groups, Google Groups or Facebook fan pages or a TalentTrove MyStage accounts. The key secret to building up a large email lists is by simply asking. You can offer people a free t-shirt, CD or download to entice them even more so to sign up. From there onward you can send updates about important dates and news as much as you like. Be careful not to over sell products on bombard people with TOO much information, twice a week should be sufficient.

Social Networks- The boom of social networking sites has exploded. MySpace being the largest host of bands on the web. But there are tons of other networking sites to the rescue. Using these sites you can create a fan base, share or release new media, make announcements of what you are currently working on and what to expect in the future. Another great tactic that you can incorporate into your social networking site, is posting videos. No one takes
the time to read anything more that 5 sentences long. So instead, video tape your/or your band explaining to your audience and fans about all the new material coming out soon. With social networks as the new phenomenon of today, this is probably the most important step you need to take and move forward with in during your path of self promotion.

Blogging- Blogging has been around for years, however not its common state. You can start a free blog virtually anywhere, from places like Blogger, WordPress, Lifehacker, Gawker and many others. The templates are simple and easy to use and you can write about whatever you want, especially relating to your band and its happenings. Get personal in your blog posts, after all its emotion that captivates an audience. It’s also very important to update your blog frequently. Also make sure you answer comments as they come in and promote your blog on other blogging sites related to you.

Podcats- Podcasts are basically downloadable radio/TV type programs that you can create and do whatever you want with. You can use them to make announcements, release new singles, talk to the fans, anything you want.
